Israel will mobilize thousands of reserve soldiers to strengthen his campaign against Hamas in the Gaza strip, the military announced on Saturday evening, since the country seemed ready to expand its offensive in the Palestinian encycling.
The call suggested that the Israeli government was preparing to move the tactics in an attempt to force Hamas to accept its terms for the end of the war. It is not clear if this would have been successful, since Hamas has fought a certain insurrection through more than a year of Israeli operations in Gaza.
The security cabinet of Israel, chaired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, met on Sunday to formally sign on the expansion of the campaign in Gaza, said an Israeli official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.
The announcement of the mobilization aggravated the fears to Gaza, in which Israel has forbidden food, medicine and other humanitarian aid to enter for over two months. Having accepted for more than a year of hunger and fights, many have still been displaced or live among the rubble of their homes.
After Israel ended a two -month fire with Hamas in mid -March, the Israeli forces resumed to attack through the enclave. But while the jets and Drones Israel regularly bombed Gaza from the air, the Israeli land forces slowed down their advance after seizing some territory.
More than 50,000 people were killed in the military campaign of Israel against Hamas in Gaza, according to the health officials of Gaza. They do not distinguish between fighters and civilians, but their counts include thousands of children.
The war began after Hamas led a surprise attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, who killed around 1,200 people and saw about 250 filming in Gaza as hostages. In the aftermath, the Israeli leaders promised to destroy Hamas in Gaza and free all the prisoners who held there.
Although more than a devastating year of war, Israel has not yet fully achieved one of these goals. Although Israel managed to kill many of the leaders of Hamas, the Palestinian militants fought a stubborn friction war, has recruited new fighters to their cause and it is believed that they still keep up to 24 living hostages and the bodies of dozens of others.
At the beginning of the war, the Israeli troops crossed the enclave, leveling the bands of the cities of Gaza and moving hundreds of thousands of Palestinians. But often they returned to different areas, still and again, to face what they called a renewed presence of Hamas there.
International mediators, including the Trump administration, tried to mark a new one ceased the fire between Israel and Hamas to free the hostages in exchange for Palestinians in Israeli prisons. But the two parties established apparently contradictory conditions for an agreement.
Israel requested that Hamas spread his arms, which the group refused to do. Hamas, for his part, said that he will no longer free the hostages until Israel is committed to an agreement that includes a complete end of the war and a complete retreat from the Gaza Strip.
The call-up announcement also aroused a deeper anxiety among the families of the hostages, who fear that the fights can kill their loved ones. They tried to gather the Israelis to put pressure on the government to reach a new truce with Hamas.
Yotam Cohen, whose brother was kidnapped during the assault led by Hamas, accused Mr. Netanyahu of breaking the previous one ceased the fire before leaving the country in a renewed and avoidable war with Hamas. He asked an immediate agreement with Hamas to free his brother, who still believes herself alive.
“Instead of taking him home to an agreement, Netanyahu is sending the soldiers in a war that will kill him,” Cohen said at an event on Saturday.
Netanyahu suggested that taking the remaining hostages home is less important than Hamas's decidedly defeat. In interviews and speeches, Netanyahu promised the Israeli public “victory” over the group.
Liteo prisoners was “an important goal”, said Netanyahu in an address on Thursday. “But in war there is a supreme goal, and this is defeating our enemies,” he added.
Israel's army supports his pool of reservists, many of whom have served for months – with some who have made several service tour – since the beginning of the war.
But those ranks saw the firm dissent for the conduct of the war by the government. Last month, a group of reserve and officers retired aeronautics signed a public letter that urges an agreement with Hamas to return the hostages, even at the price of stopping the war in Gaza.
