The captain of a container ship that hit a oil tanker who transported fuel for the American army on Monday was a Russian citizen, the company that owns that ship said on Wednesday.
The man was arrested in northern England on Tuesday for suspicion of serious culpable murder for negligence. A crew member disappeared and presumed dead after the accident, who forced both crews to abandon the ship.
There was no immediate indication that the nationality of the captain had a role in the accident. The Russians represent about 10 percent of international maritime, according to the international shipping room. British legislators have declared that they have no evidence that suggest a foul.
Ernst Russ, the company owner of the container ship, called Solong, declared in a declaration that the captain of the ship was a Russian citizen, while the rest of the crew members was Russian and Filipino.
“Ernst Russ can confirm that the master of container Solong was held by the Humberside police in the United Kingdom,” added the company in a separate update. “The teacher and the entire team are actively helping the investigations.”
The accident on Monday morning, about 13 nautical miles off the north -eastern coast of England, triggered a series of explosions and a fire aboard both ships that sent plumes of black smoke in the air. Since the Solong plowed the oil tanker, called Sina Immacolata, in the daytime hours, while the cistern ship was stationary, the experts raised questions about why the radar systems and alert did not prevent the accident.
A member of the Solong crew was allegedly died after a vast research was canceled late on Monday, even if all the other crew members fled unharmed.
Tuesday, the Humberside police, the responsible strength of the area, said that a 59 -year -old man had been arrested on charges of serious culpable murder for negligence in relation to the accident. As is a typical practice in accordance with the British law, the police refused to provide further details on her identity.
The Immaculate Sena was transporting fuel for Jet and was managed by the United States Navy at the time of the accident, according to the British Minister of Transport, Mike Kane, who informed Parliament about the episode Tuesday. In Kane it was also asked if the accident seemed intentional.
“If there was a phallus, I believe, speculation; There is no evidence that suggest that at the moment, “said Kane, adding that the British government was in contact with its American and Portuguese counterparties. However, he added,” something went terribly crooked “to cause the accident.
The Immaculate Stena is owned by Crowley, a logistics company based in Florida, and had been rented in the short term to serve the operations of the United States government.
