British Airways will get 32 new Boeing planes, in an agreement for a value of almost $ 13 billion, his mother company announced on Friday, one day after US officials have made fun of a large order for the largest American air producer.
IAG, who owns British Airways and other European airlines, said he ordered the Boeing plane and 21 Airbus planes, a French aerospace company, to be delivered between 2028 and 2033
The announcement came after Howard Lutnick, the secretary of the United States Trade, said Thursday that Great Britain would buy a planes of $ 10 billion Boeing planes while announced the details of what he called a “strong” commercial agreement between the two countries. Air order, however, is a commercial agreement and not part of the commercial agreement of governments.
Lutnick also said that the United States would discard the rates on reaction engines and other parts of Rolls-Royce, a British company, although the agreement was not included in the documents published on Thursday by the United States and by British governments.
Thursday, the two nations agreed a picture to lower the US rates on cars and steel for British imports, while Great Britain has increased access to the market for beef and American ethanol. President Trump and Keir Starmer, British Prime Minister, warmly congratulated each other for accepting the first commercial agreement since the American administration has substantially raised the rates for its commercial partners. But this agreement is not definitive: more negotiations will take place and it is not clear when tariff reductions will have effect.
The Boeing order, announced alongside the report on IAG quarterly profits, was for 787-10 aircraft with a list price of $ 397 million (in dollar prices from January) each, making the order for 32 planes for a value of $ 12.7 billion. But the company claimed to have a guaranteed discount on that price. IAG has the opportunity to buy another 10 planes.
IAG also claimed to have purchased 21 Airbus Airbus A330-900neo planes for its other airlines, which include Aer Lingus and Iberia, in an agreement for a value of almost $ 8 billion and with the possibility of buying another 13.
Luis Gallego, CEO of IAG, described it as an “milestone” order that was part of a long -term strategy to improve its fleet, even to more efficient planes from an energy point of view.
“Looking forward to the next decade, these new planes will allow us to strengthen our main markets and further improve our experience with customers, continuing to guide the long -term value for our shareholders,” he said.
British Airways flies both Boeing and Airbus Planes. In March, Ig ordered six planes from each company for British Airways, which will be delivered later in the decade. These planes are not part of the order announced on Friday.
IAG made the announcement as it reported 198 million euros of operating profits in the first quarter of 2025, compared to the 68 million euros of a year ago. The price of the company's shares increased by almost 3 % to the London stock exchange.
The company also said that the closing of Heathrow airport for a March day, due to a current interruption and a fire nearby, cost British Airways of about € 50 million.
